The four images that make up “Representation” were created by combining and averaging the images of every member of the 109th Congress based on party and chamber (à la Jason Salavon). For example, “Republican Senator” is the average of all 55 Republican senators in the 109th Congress, “Democratic Representative” is the average of all 201 Democratic house members in the 109th Congress. The composite images expose and accentuate the underlying common visual aspects shared by individual members.
